Heddon on the Wall is situated about 9 miles west of Newcastle upon Tyne in the beautiful, unspoiled and historical county of Northumberland. The village is built on a hill, on the line of Hadrian's Roman Wall and has an exposed piece of the wall on the edge of the village. The village has its own Post Office, a small selection of shops, a cafe/delicatessen, and a 12th Century Church. There are two friendly and traditional country inns. There is excellent access to Tyneside and Northumberland and although Heddon on the Wall is situated in the countryside, it is only a 15 minute car journey away from the bright lights of Newcastle City Centre and 15 minutes from one of the largest out of town shopping centre's in Europe the Gateshead MetroCentre. 30 minutes to the west there is the open-air heated swimming pool at Haltwhistle and to the south the historical City of Durham.
